Rene Koellen Partner - Monitoring Trustee

René is an economist, Chartered Certified Accountant and an expert in merger control and state aid commitments. He specialises in monitoring trustee services on behalf of competition authorities in Europe, North and South America, and other regulators around the world and advises companies on remedies.

Experience

René has extensive experience working with competition authorities in Europe (e.g., EC and CMA), Latin America, e.g., COFECE, IFT (both Mexico), FNE (Chile), SCPM (Ecuador), SIC (Colombia), and CADE (Brazil), but also with SAMR in China and ECA in Egypt. He has significant experience in M&A processes and divestment commitments as well as behavioural commitments. He has also advised regulators and companies on remedies.
Before focusing on monitoring trustee assignments, René performed financial due diligence for sell-side and buy-side projects and valuations on behalf of international strategic as well as financial investors.
René is a German native speaker and speaks fluent English and Spanish. He is based in Dusseldorf and London.

Work Highlights

René works with a multinational, blue chip client base and has acted as monitoring trustee on some of the world's largest M&A transactions and has experience with divestiture processes of stand alone as well as of complex carve outs. He advises clients in a broad area of industries, among others biotechnology, telecommunication, financial services, media, manufacturing, food and beverages, energy, technology and manufacturing. He supports clients in the smooth implementation of remedies and in solving complex issues.
